Moving a home is not moving freight
A container of tiles has a value on an invoice. A household does not: it has a wedding photograph, a piano your grandmother played and the clothes you need in the first week. The logistics are similar; the care is not.
We handle international moves door to door — packing, transport, customs and unpacking — with one coordinator who knows which boxes matter and when you need them.
What a move includes
- A survey, in person or by video call, to measure the real volume
- Professional packing with materials rated for ocean transport
- An itemised inventory, which is also what customs requires
- Ocean (FCL or LCL) or air transport, depending on urgency and budget
- Customs clearance at both ends, with our in-house broker in Chile
- Delivery to your new address, unpacking and removal of the packaging
Choosing how to ship
Many moves combine two: an air shipment with the essentials, and the rest by sea. It costs little more and changes the first month entirely.
| Option | Typical volume | Transit | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20' container | a 2–3 bedroom home | 30–40 days | A full household, exclusive use |
| 40' container | a 4+ bedroom home | 30–40 days | A large household, or a home plus a vehicle |
| LCL (groupage) | under 15 CBM | 35–50 days | A flat or a partial move |
| Air freight | a few boxes | 5–10 days | What you need in the first week |
Customs, and what it wants to see
Chile allows returning residents and foreigners taking up residence to import used household effects free of duty, within limits and against the right paperwork. The inventory has to be detailed, valued and consistent with what is actually in the boxes.
New items, alcohol, vehicles and firearms all have their own treatment. We go through the inventory with you before packing, because a declaration corrected at origin costs nothing and one corrected at the port costs weeks.
Insurance is not optional in practice
Carrier liability on an international move is limited by convention and is far below the replacement value of a household. All-risk cover is priced on the declared value of the inventory and is a small fraction of the move.
We quote it as a line you can accept or decline, never bundled in silently.
Frequently asked questions
How long does an international move take?
By sea, 30 to 50 days door to door depending on origin, service and customs. By air, 5 to 10 days. Many clients send the essentials by air and the rest by sea.
Do I pay duty on my household goods?
Chile allows returning residents and foreigners taking up residence to bring in used household effects free of duty, within limits and against a detailed inventory and the right paperwork. New items and vehicles are treated separately.
Do you pack for me?
Yes. Professional packing at origin with materials rated for ocean transport is part of the service, along with the itemised inventory customs requires, and we unpack and remove the packaging at destination.
