Choosing the mode
Most shipments have an obvious answer and a few have a real decision behind them. The question is never which is cheapest per kilo — it is what the total cost of the delay is.
| Mode | Transit | Relative cost | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ocean FCL | 15–40 days | Lowest per CBM | Volume, non-urgent |
| Ocean LCL | 20–50 days | Low, small volumes | Under 15 CBM |
| Air | 3–12 days | Highest per kilo | Urgent, high-value, perishable |
| Road | 1–10 days | Mid | Regional South America |
| Sea–air | 12–20 days | Between the two | Deadline with a budget |
What a forwarder is actually for
Anyone can get a freight rate. What takes experience is everything around it: classifying the goods correctly, catching a document mismatch before the vessel sails, knowing which routing has two transhipments and which has none, and knowing how many free days you have before demurrage starts.
That is where shipments are won or lost, and none of it shows up on a rate sheet.
Under one contract
- Booking with the carrier, airline or trucking company
- Documentation: Bill of Lading or AWB, invoice, packing list, certificate of origin
- Cargo insurance, quoted as a line you can accept or decline
- Customs clearance at both ends, with our in-house broker in Chile
- Port, terminal and handling charges
- Final-mile delivery with digital proof of delivery
And you can see all of it
Every shipment, whatever the mode, shows up in the same portal: live position, documents, invoices and alerts at each milestone. An ocean container, an air waybill and a truck crossing a border all look the same from your side, which is the point.
Frequently asked questions
Which transport mode should I choose?
It depends on the total cost of the delay, not the cost per kilo. Ocean suits volume and non-urgent cargo, air suits urgent, high-value or perishable goods, road suits regional South America, and sea–air sits between the two when there is a deadline and a budget.
Do you handle everything under one contract?
Yes: booking, documentation, insurance, customs clearance at both ends, port charges and final-mile delivery. One contract, one invoice and one executive who owns the file.
Can I see all my shipments in one place?
Yes. Ocean, air and road shipments all appear in the same client portal, with live position, documents, invoices and automatic alerts at each milestone.
